Having a dad who is consantly going to the nature to photograph, our boys are quite well informed about the nature. They can name all kind of animals - also the ones small children usually do not know like marten (nugis), badger (mäger), otter (saarmas) or birds like buzzard (hiireviu), arctic tern (randtiir) or golden eagle (kaljukotkas). They also know what is the difference between coat (kits) and deer (hirv); and can imitate sounds of elk, wild boar or owl.
Erik can't wait the time, when he can take the boys out to the forrest to photograph. We believe Fred is the first one to join as he shows the biggest interest to wild nature. Until they are still too small, we take hikes out to the nature - usually somewhere close. We try to go each weekend. Our favourite places are Tabasalu Nature Park (10 kms from our home) and Keila-Joa (12 kms from our home). Boys like to pick sprays or cones; they like to run around and most of all, they like the sea. They call it "big water".
Today, we went to Keila-Joa to enjoy the last colours of Autumn. Soon, it's winter time...
After a looong gap between blog-posts, I decided it's time to start again.
Yes, you guessed it right: I have been way too busy to write something here... Days fly by and I feel overwhelmed with all tasks I have to do during the day. And night. I wish it was more than 24 hours in one day. Maybe then, I could manage my life much better!
Anyway, I have missed posting here - write about our life with our wonderful boys. Afterall - family is the most important.
This week, a new period started in our life: boys went to the kindergarten. In Estonia, all kids should have got a place for kindergarten at the age of 3. In our county, there have been a big problem with kindergarten: too many young families with small children and too few kindergartens. Many parents were angry - the moms want to start working again, but there is no place where to take a kid. In our family, it was not that bad as we had a Nanny for the boys since they were 9 months old, but paying each month - a full-time salary for a Nanny - .... well, it has costed us a fortune!
Luckily in summer, our county announced of building a new kindergarten. Or being precise: renovating an older office building for a kindergarten. At first I was a bit sceptic - can it really be a nice kindergarten if it used to be an office for some company? But in the end - it came out all nice! And in October 15, the kindergarten was opened. As it is situated in a street called "Future street", then the kindergarten itself is called like that, too. "Future"... and all groups in kindergarten are inspired of the same theme. For example, our boys go to a group called "Inventors". There are 21 children with 1 teacher and helper.
The first day was very difficult for me: leaving boys somewhere what they don't know, with someone they don't know and with kids they have never seen... I was nervous all day thinking how they are coping there... But when I went to pick them up in the afternoon, they were nicely playing and everything was fine. I was releaved! I guess it's much easier to go to the kindergarten when you have brothers supporting you. :)
Anyway, since that day, boys have been to kindergarten each day and have not cried at all. Lets see how the next week will be! Our boys are big now! In August - we traditionally go to Pille's place in Rapla county to celebrate the end of the summer (and of course, also to meet our good friends). We did it in 2011, 2009, 2008. It's always fun at Pille's - and we are always blessed with good weather. Pille has sheep and a horse and our boys loved to watch them (it's not their first time as in Muhu, we have several farmers, too); we had a nice dinner like always and nice chats with Marju, Kristi and Eve.
See you again next year! :)
I'm sorry the post will be in Estonian, because otherwise, describing my boys' funny words in English would ruin the meaning of the post.

"Kus on Po ratas?", "Tipsi kübar on kadunud", "La-laa tudub voodis" jne. Tegelikkuses tähendab see "teisele poole".
Frediga on rääkimise osas natuke teised lood.

Vahva on jälgida laste kõne arengut. Summer has vanished away, and I haven't posted anything. I try to be better in Autumn!
The main event in summer was - of course boys' 2nd birthday. It's amazing those little boys have been in our family for 2 years already. Sometimes, it feels such a long period, especially in every-day routine; but when looking back - those 2 years have passed by quickly!
We haven't been to the doctor for 2-years-visit yet (we'll go on Tuesday), so we don't know how tall and heavy the boys are, but in all other things, they are normal 2-year-old-boys: they like to run, climb, play with cars, drive cars, ride their balance bikes, swing and of course, make a lot of mischief. All of them talk now quite a lot - sentences with 2 and 3 words are already normal. Fred, who is the quickest physically, but lowest in talking, has developed his language skills considerably, too, and now says words as clearly as Ralf and Sten. All in all, they are sweet boys! :)
I'm still working, but the evenings and weekends we spend as much time outside as possible. We have a large garden and sometimes boys really enjoy "helping" the mom and dad. Usually, it's more trouble than help, but at least the boys are entertained. :) In the garden, boys also love to play in the sandbox and swing.

But in most days, it's not enough - they want to go out... for a walk to a local playground which was built just this Spring or for a car ride (for example, to visit grandparents who live only 10 minutes away with the car).
We are already looking for my summer holiday to start - and then we want to travel as much as possible, to make our summer memorable and eventful.Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-55150404222093334502012-06-11T22:45:00.003+03:002012-06-11T22:46:21.324+03:00What do people say to us, when they see us?

What do people say to us, when they see us, walking around with the triplets' buggy or just going somewhere with 3 boys? Here are some examples:

"I just need to ask: are they really twins?" (asked by a retired man behind the doctor's door looking at our 3 boys, all dressed the same)

"Look... triplets! They are like 3 brothers, but not in reality" (said by a boy in the Zoo)

"Oh, triplets... were they born on the same day?" (asked by a woman about my age)

"Unfortunately I have nothing to compete you with. I have only 2 kids. And no twins or triplets." (said by a man walking by)

"Is one of these triplets, 1 year older than others? It looks like he is." (asked by a woman about Ralf)

"Every time when you walk by our house, I look from the window... you are so cute. Today, I took my courage and came to ask if I can take a photo of you... I want to show it to my wife" (said by a man in our village)

"I am out of words!" (said by a man walking by)

Funny - do you really need to say anything at all?!? But I know... those are the first impressions. Maybe I would say something a bit strange, too, or stare at triplets if I didn't have my own triplets. Because honestly - before my own triplets, I had never seen any triplet buggies in my life!Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-40129368737197073372012-06-10T15:13:00.005+03:002012-06-10T15:13:59.849+03:00Visiting Kadri and her triplet-boys

It's very easy to become friends with other triplet-moms. You don't need to explain anything about your life. They KNOW. They live the same life. They understand you in half word.
Of course having triplets doesn't automatically mean, that you need to be friends with other triplet-moms, but it's a chance to get to know some wonderful people and I have never regretted that I have met Maris, Maarja and Kadri this way. Vice versa - we give each other the strength to go on with our lives, with a positive note.
On Friday, we drove to see Kadri and her 9-month-old triplet boys again. We hoped the weather to be good to be able to have a small picnic at Kadri's garden and a walk with our triplet prams to the harbour. The Weatherman listened to us and the day was absolutely beautiful. We all enjoyed it!
In May 20, we decided to go to the Zoo with the boys. The day looked sunny and nice - so why not show an elephant, a seal, an ice-bear and a lion to the boys? We went with our triplets-buggy, because without it, the boys would have run to 3 different directions.
I had to teach Erik how to be NOT disturbed by the attention we are getting when we go with the triplets-buggy. The tip is very easy: "Don't make eye contact with anyone and just keep on walking." This way, people usually do not have enough courage to come to touch our boys or disturb our normal day-out with the boys. Of course we got a lot of comments, but when you once accept it and don't let yourself disturbed by everyone who walks by, it is just fine.
I think the boys liked animals quite a lot. Unfortunately Tallinn Zoo is very large - area-wise - but didn't have many animals in the cages, yet. Maybe it was still too cold? But at least the boys saw most of the animals we hoped they'll see - an elephant, seal and an ice-bear. We missed a lion though.
It was a nice day. :)
Mother's Day is in the nicest time of the year. This year, the day was absolutely nice, too. I was able to stay in my garden the whole day - thanks to Erik and the boys who gave me a free morning. It was the best Mother's Day gift. :) I was treating all my flowers... giving them the same love I've given to my boys throughout the year.
Tulips are in full blooms right now. Forsythias as well. Narcissuses and hyacints are finishing. Early peonies and bleeding hearts are almost there. Spirae nipponica Snowmound and Grefsheim Spirea will follow together with lilacs... just lovely!
Here I am, with my 3 precious boys:

And here is my 4th precious boy, riding on a motorcycle competition on Mother's Day:
Here, you can see a cake baked for my own mom, for his 65th birthday as well as for Mother's Day (it's not made by myself; however it's a very special cake as it's something from Muhu island):

Spring comes, although slowly (today morning, it was all white again...). We try to spend as much time outside as possible. When it's weekend, and I'm at home, we spend outside at least 4 hours - 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. The boys always find something to do outside and are always excited, when I say the magical sentence "Lets go outside now"!
Our boys have both older and younger friends.

GLEN is our neighbour boy who we see the most. He comes to play in our house or in our garden and boys are very used to him. He's like another brother. :) He's 8 months older than our boys; still is bigger and wiser, but soon we won't notice the age difference.

MÄRTEN is another boy who our boys have met quite often. He is the son of my friend Marju and they live just 6 kms from us. Märten came to visit us during Easter. He is 1 year old, very developed for his age (started to walk at the age of 8 months) and a serious guy. I'm sure that very soon they start to play together more actively.

MÄRT and MIHKEL - they are nice boys from Pärnu, my friend Eda's two sons. Märt is 5 and Mihkel is 2,5. Just yesterday, we went to Märt's birthday. We have been travelling together during summer-time and we visit each other during birthdays.

MATHIAS, LUKAS, TOBIAS - 3 triplet boys. I have been talking to their mom Kadri since they were born, but only now we managed to meet them in reality: on Friday, we drove to visit them. They are 7 months old, so still a little bit too young for our boys to play with, but our boys were quite curious to see them and touched them very softly! :)

ERICH, HINDRIK, ASTRA - triplets, too. They were born 3 months later than our boys. I just visited them 1,5 weeks ago, but was alone (as I went to their place directly from work). Hopefully soon, they will come to visit us and play in the garden, like last summer.
LOVIISA, LISANN, KARL JOHANN - triplets, too! :) They are 3 years old living quite close to us in Laagri. Last time, we met them during their birthday, some months ago. When it gets warmer, we must meet them again!Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-26406252402130062102012-04-03T00:14:00.000+03:002012-04-03T00:14:00.494+03:00Vision

Last week, I became a visioner. You may wonder what do I mean. Very easy explanation: my vision is clear now. I think it's one of the loveliest dreams of a short-sighted person to wake up one morning and see everthing... perfectly! Nowadays, it's possible and I decided to do it. I decided to get my vision back. After 18 years of glasses and stronger and stronger lenses, I can finally see without them. It made me think why I waited for so long to do it. It's so good to see! It's so good to wear sunglasses! It's so good to swim and do spa-procedures without glasses. It's so good to do sports without glasses! Yes - many many advantages.
BUT are there any disadvantages? There is one, what I have thought a lot lately (when I considered whether to go through the laser operation or not). Glasses are a part of me. Glasses are somehow my "safety zone". Every week, I need to stand in front of people to give lectures for several hours. They all look at me, they all pay attention to how I look, what jokes I make, what wisdom I speak. Those people may be old and young. Men and women. Smart and not so smart. Some I see regularly, some I see the whole semester, some I meet only once. With some, I get a good atmopshere quickly, with others, it takes some more time
Glasses are always good to have when you stand in front of the auditorium. It gives you a certain "invisible" wall. You need to open up when you talk to people, but glasses help to have a bit of privacy.
Now, standing in front of class - without glasses - feels like being naked. Maybe with time, I get used to it. Maybe I start to feel comfortable. But if not, then... don't be surprised when you see me wearing glasses again, in front of auditorium. But then they are just for my safety zone, not for my clear vision! :)Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-40909602846310024042012-04-02T14:48:00.002+03:002012-04-02T14:48:30.336+03:00About Spring... hmmm I was wrong?

April is finally here! During the weekend, the boys tried gumboots and we all thought it's really time to prepare for Spring now. We have thought to put away the winter clothes and bring out spring ones. But well... April is obviously a tricky month: today morning, we woke up and saw we are back in the winter-weather. All was covered with snow.

So the boys and I took sledges out again and we had a nice ride around the village. I hope this is the last time when winter comes back! C'mon - it's APRIL!
Spring is definitely on its way! The last days have been quite winter-like, but today - finally - we have sunshine again (+ a strong wind) and it marks the official start of Spring. We have really longed for warmer weather with boys. They can now walk well outside, but they don't like to walk in the snow or on ice. So now, when the snow slowly melts, it gives much more opportunities for us to go out and have something interesting to do.
Fred is the one who adores being outside and searching every corner of our garden. He never wants to come back inside, it's always with loads of cry. Sten, on the other hand (at least right now, when he is cranky because of teething), likes to stay outside for 10 minutes and then prefers to sit on my lap or whine when I don't take him on my lap. Ralf is somewhere in the middle. He doesn't whine much, but he is not such a curious boy outside as Fred is.
During last weekend, we went to the local playground for the first time. My mom was with me and the boys, too, otherwise it would have been too complicated to look after 3 little boys who run in 3 different direction... There was still a bit too much snow, but the boys enjoyed some of the attraction quite a lot. We are definitely going back there as soon as it gets warmer and snow has melted away.
Spring, please arrive quicker! :)
We still have quite a lot of snow on the ground. Today morning, we drove to grandparents' place and the boys had sledge rides from small hills which grandpa had made for his grandchildren in his garden.Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-33252510209233129202012-02-01T10:05:00.003+02:002012-02-01T10:05:43.349+02:00How small they were?

1,5 years has passed by since the boys were born. After 2 days, they turn 18 months old. It's now hard to imagine how small they actually were... Here you can see the comparison: the bigger size 86, what the boys wear now, and the smaller size 44, which was even a bit too big when the boys were born...Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-78514491441352142252012-01-24T19:40:00.000+02:002012-01-24T19:40:18.280+02:00Reasons to work

Some nights, I can't get sleep after Fred has been awake for several times. I lay in the bed and think about my life... namely I think about diving myself between the family and the work.
Why did I decide to go back to work so soon? Yes, the triplets turn 1,5 years old in February 4 and I start working full-time in February 8.
Am I a bad mother because of that? I really don't know. I HOPE I'm not.
I hope my kids understand me. It's not about the money. I have enough savings to live through some years and not work. It's about something else. What is it then?

1. I go crazy being at home without using my brain. I can blame my work duties entirerly: during the last 10 years, all I have done, is remembering scientific stuff. Remembering loads of definitions. Remembering results of tests. Remembering all my lectures (I usually lecture by heart and not from notes), more than 200 hours per year. Now, suddenly, my brain doesn't have this workload it's used to. And I feel I just cannot be without it... I'm addicted to my work.

2. Sometimes, I feel that I'm doing work 24 hours and Erik 8 hours at work plus some hours at home and the rest, he is entitled to do his hobbies or just watch TV. It seems like mother's job is 24 hours while father's job is 8 hours at work and maximum 2 hours at home... because I get paid as a mother and this is 24 hours work. If I start working again, it feels more equal - we both work and after that, we can share our home duties. I know it sounds stupid, but this really seems to be a solution for me: start working feels me to have a right to complain more and ask help more. I'm entitled to some hobbies, too. I've given up 95% of all my hobbies, while it's not the same for Erik. Yes, I know - it's not his fault I'm a woman and he is a man... But still. I want it to be more equal.

3. In some weird way, it's also about the money. Or more being dependant on someone. I have never asked money from a man. Since I graduated from university, I have always earnt my own salary and covered my life expenses. I have had a freedom NOT to give reasons for someone how I spend my own money. I have always been able to take care for myself. I do not want to give this freedom and independency away... it means too much for me.

Are those good enough reasons to go back to work? Or should I, unselfishly, give up those things in life and dedicate myself to my children? But what happens AFTER that? When my kids are old enough to go to kindergarten (age 4) or school (age 7)? Is there any guarantees I can get it all back, after some years?

Don't get me wrong... I love my little boys. They are a big part of my life and I cannot imagine my life without them anymore. But I'm a person myself, too...Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-62065777049667411442012-01-18T18:59:00.001+02:002012-01-18T18:59:29.293+02:00In the bath

In summer-time, the triplets enjoyed water and their outside pool a lot. They could play there for several hours. Once we came back inside, we decided to bath them in our regular bath-tube, because the baby bath-tubes which we had before, seemed to be too small.
We started to bath them individually.
However, the ground of the bath was too slippery and Ralf got scared of it. We bought a cover for the ground at once, but Ralf was still scared. He decided to hate water. Every time, we bathed the boys, Ralf was screaming like crazy. Nothing helped. It lasted for 5 months. Last week, it changed. The reason: we decided to put them to the bathtube two at a time. When Ralf saw how much Sten enjoys it, he suddenly changed his opinion about water and baths. He started to laugh and enjoyed it very much! We all were very happy about it - now, Sunday evenings are once again for fun!
2012 came together with the snow. It's very special because this winter we have had almost no snow. That's why we have tried to use these snowy days as much as possible and gone out every single morning to sledge. Boys like sledging a lot. We do the same circles as we did with the triplet pram, just now with the sledges. 3 sledges in a row is not that heavy - it's just good physical excercise! Often, Glen and Aune join us, too. Hopefully the snowy weather stays... it's much more beautiful outside this way. Estonians don't like warm and muddy winters!

These 2 photos are taken in the first morning of January 1. The day was absolutely beautiful! We tried to make Tony to carry the sledges as well, but he didn't like this idea at all!

Kert is my eldest son. The bravest young man I know. He has had more operations in his life than me. He never complains about it. He accepted his situation and always lands on his feet. He tries to get his life back to normal as soon as possible. After every operation. I admire his state of mind, his courage, his willpower to do that.
This time, we thought it will be just like that. He had his leg operation in December 19. After that, he said he feels better than after all other operations he had in the past. He wanted to be it back to normal as soon as possible. But it didn't happen. He's spending the New Year's Eve in the hospital. And we don't know when he is able to walk again. Sad, but true. I wish it was me and not him. How can you take away the pain from someone you love? Is that somehow possible? I doubt that...
We just have to live and wait and hope for the best. If it helps...Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-44037941531661067382011-12-26T11:13:00.000+02:002011-12-26T11:13:26.270+02:00Scrap-booking album for Christmas

This is the second scrap-booking album I have made. The first one went to our neighbour-boy Glen (it was about his first 2 years) and now, the second one was a gift for Erik's grandma - the triplets' great-grandmother. She has always said that she likes to watch the photos of the boys (I have given her some), but since she has no computer at home, she doesn't see the photos online. That's why I decided to make an album for her. It was not an easy task - with all the Christmas hussle and boys' sickness before Christmas (they had a nasty rota-virus). I practically finished this album on Christmas Day! But at least it was finished, wrapped and given to Great-Grandmother on Christmas party yesterday. She loved it just the same as I loved making it.
My next album will be for myself. It's a bigger album and surely will take some time to make, but at least I already have the photos developed and scrapbooking materials laying around the bedroom floor (I have no other place to make it...), so lets start! :)Karinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10372778059800281828noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-257573685687887630.post-38693121529428952392011-12-24T23:04:00.002+02:002011-12-24T23:04:36.608+02:00Merry Christmas

This Christmas, after many snowy ones, is a rainy Christmas. For an Estonian, rainy Christmas is nothing to dream of - vice versa. Every year we expect it to be snowy and white. Then, it's Right Christmas. Even when the snow conditions outside are very poor, our 3 little Santa helpers managed to arrive with the sledges as you see on the picture down. And, inside, we have a Christmas feeling with a small tree (put away high up as the boys would otherwise ruin it at once), with candles and Christmas food.
Merry Christmas to all!
Yes, the boys have been members of our family for 1 year and 4 months.
What can they do buy now?
All of them walk. Fred and Ralf made their first steps being 13 months old and after some weeks, walked properly. Sten was a little bit slower and started to walk just 2 days before he turned 16 months old. Fred can also run. He loves to run away from me, when I need to change his nappy. He finds it really funny when I'm trying to catch him. Ralf is slower, but he walks and does everything like from a textbook and like a single child. We are very happy about their physical achivements.
With Sten, we have been going to the swimming-therapy for a few weeks. It's quite demanding - we need to go every morning, which means that I need to arrange someone who looks after the other two boys during that time and usually, after swimming, driving and geting back home, I need to rush to work (not all days though as I work only part-time). Sten loves our small bath at home, but in the swimming pool, he likes to observe other kids more than swim in the pool. So mainly he is just enjoying his mommy's hands which keep him on the water and looking around curiously. Only today, we had a breakthrough - as we were all alone in the pool, then there was nothing else to do than play and swim, and this made me as well as the couch very happy. We go there until Christmas. I think it does good for Sten - at least he gets one-in-one time with his mom and I know it's important for him.
Ralf talks the most. He can say a lot of different words. His favourite word is "fell down", which he repeats all the time he throws something on the floor. And he likes to do it a lot. He also says "thank you", "mommy", "Piia" (my mom's name; Kert also started with Piia instead of grandma as my mom's name is so easy to pronounce), "car", "no-no" and so on. Fred's and Sten's vocabulary is much more limited. Fred likes to point to various things and say "this", he and Sten also say "thank you". They like to laugh and the most, they like to be naughty (especially Fred).
Their definite favourites are lasagne and potatoe salad. They drink plum juice and yogurth with a great pleasure. Sometimes they are bad eaters and they start to get picky now. They often refuse the morning porridge. Sometimes they don't eat the dinner... but they always like banana or some other fruits.
They usually sleep from 8.30 p.m. until 8.00 a.m., when it's a good day. Of course, they sometimes see a bad dream and wake up for some moments when I or Erik have to go to their room and calm them down + Fred hasn't given up his milk bottle in the middle of the night; but all in all, I can say that finally I can sleep during the nights. It feels like Heaven! :)
Just some running noses and so, but nothing serious. This is the most important, because remembering the crazy days last year with the chicken-pox, I know, that when the triplets are sick, then it's really an emergency situation at home... I hope the boys stay healthy throughout the winter, too.
In good days, it's possible to manage all day alone with the triplets. Erik is especially good at it. With me, the boys are always more picky, they show their feelings, they are easily more cranky and so on. So I'm usually glad when someone comes to help me and for a change, I can spend some time with just 1 boy - so that they all get enough mom's attention.
In conclusion: life with triplets is physically quite demanding, but at the same time, it's a lot of fun to see how our little boys get smarter and smarter day by day.
